Retired But Not Forgotten
(A Comedy in Two Acts)

Big City Detectives Jack Lacey and Jim Bob Cagney have retired from the fast pace of city life and are living the good life on the beach.  They spend most of their time sitting on the beach drinking beer, eating donuts and looking at women.  When Jim Bob shows up one morning wearing a swim suit, hat, sunglasses and cowboy boots and carrying fishing gear, the resulting conversation leaves Jack with a headache and Jim Bob with the realization that he really doesn't want to catch any fish if he has to clean them. "Yuk, can't you just put them in the dishwasher?"

Police Officer William Hunter, on Beach Patrol, suspects that Jack and Jim Bob have beer in their cooler and confronts them.  Veterans of law enforcement that they are, they challenge Hunter's authority to look in the cooler.  Just as things begin to heat up, enter Harriet "Harri" Callahan and Kathy "Flash" Gordon.  Harri and Kathy, now Captains, once worked with Jack and Jim Bob.  They badge the local policeman and take custody of the recalcitrants.  After introductions all around, Officer Hunter becomes instant friends with our intrepid quartet, especially Kathy with whom the sparks fly.

Act I ends with the guys and gals heading up the beach to Jack's condo to cook hamburgers.  Jim Bob wants to know how hamburgers got their name.  And Jack explains that . .  never mind, you really don't want to know.

As Act II opens, Harri and Jim Bob are missing in action.  Could they be getting lucky?  Heaven forbid.  They finally show up with Jim Bob dressed like a normal human being.  Thank God.  Those cowboy boots had to go.  The foursome spends some time discussing such mundane issues as their lives, retirement and careers.  Then Jim Bob launches into an explanation about his newly discovered Native American Heritage.  Everything you ever wanted to know about qualifying for Tribal Membership.  Or not.

After Hunter gets off duty, he joins the fearsome foursome and the hijinks and fun continue.  The play ends with Hunter revealing his given name to the others - William Robert Hunter - but his friends call him . . .
